Ch-Ch-Changes!

So here I sit, at work, getting paid to blog. Yes that’s right, I’m living every faithful bloggers dream right now. Only it’s really not all that glamorous and not as exciting and fulfilling as it sounds. You see, there’s nothing for me to do at my new job, so I’m sitting here getting paid to do NOTHING. Well I guess technically I’m getting paid to check my email, search for a job, and write a blog about the craziness that is my life right now.

Next Friday (Friday the 13th, how’s that for an omen?), is my last day at my old job. As you might guess, my new job isn’t working out all that well since there’s really nothing for me to do at this point. Originally my new boss told me that I’d be full time within 2 to 3 months, but it’s really not looking so good.

Through all of this employment turmoil, I’ve really been trying to stay positive and look at the bright side of things. It’s actually quite an exciting time in my life if I really sit and think about it. I’m about to graduate with my Bachelor’s, which is a huge accomplishment that I’m very proud of. At this point, there’s really nothing tying J and I to this town, so we could potentially pick up and move to Alaska if we wanted, which is of course our ultimate dream.

J has applied and is trying to get back on with CAL Fire, so we’re waiting to see what happens with that. He’s applied all over Northern California, so depending upon which unit gives him an offer there’s no telling where we could move. Part of me wants J to get hired in our county, but part of me doesn’t. Since I’ve been having such a hard time finding a job, if he was offered a job in another county it might just open up a lot more opportunities for me. If he’s not offered a position at any unit, then we can seriously consider picking up and moving to Alaska, which would be so incredibly exciting!

In all reality, the best thing for us would be for J to get hired either in our county or one of the other counties he’s applied to because then we’d be able to seriously work on paying down our debts, saving a bunch of money, and just being in a better financial spot for when we do move to Alaska. But of course in my heart of hearts I want to just say, “Screw it! Let’s throw all caution to the wind and move!”

Only time will tell really. It’s all nerve racking and stressful, but at the same time pretty damn exciting because at this point anything could happen for us.

In other news, we’re moving to a new house! Close family friends of ours have a rental and the couple that has been renting from them (also our close friends) are buying a house. Their escrow closes on April 2nd, so we’ll be moving in hopefully around the middle of April. The house is a lot bigger than the duplex we’re living in, it has a HUGE backyard, and…the icing on the cake… it’s CHEAPER!!

Needless to say we’re pretty damn stoked on the whole situation. We’ll finally have more room, we’ll be able to have a guest room AND an office where I can have my computer, I’ll have room to scrapbook, and we’ll even be able to finally set up the treadmill.

Some things are really looking up for us and other things are still left unknown. For now, we just have to keep doing what we’re doing, living our daily lives, and see where everything takes us. Hopefully somewhere awesome!

  1. Good luck with your job search. I am actually thinking about sending out my own resume to various places just for the hell of it. Having a future that is wide open is both exhilarating and scary.

  2. Good luck with everything! It seems things are changing for the better in your life!
